My role

My role

As a Product Designer, my role was to understand the business requirements, gather insights from our users to ensure we bring the right features the right way. Alongside the Product Manager, I would look at data, complaints, requests from users and determine based on this and on the business goals which features to implement next.

Ways of working

Ways of working

For each new feature or product we would have a kick off session with the entire cross functional team to discuss and align early on the vision and way forward. This session was led by the Product Manager.

I would then go on the UX Research part of the journey, doing some market research, understanding the needs of the users, and start with the user flow, which I would then run by the Product Manager for alignment and transparency.

The next stage would be starting on the design, and for that, depending on the project and the component available I would either draft something, on paper, whiteboard, or go straight into high fidelity design mockups. There would then be several design review sessions, alignments with the cross functional team and with the PM. After several iterations we would come to an agreement that would best take into consideration solving the user’s problem or request and making it feasible to implement from a technical point of view within the set deadline.

Virtual Background Initiative

Virtual Background Initiative

User story

As a user I want to be able to add a virtual background while using Prezi Video so that I can keep some privacy while still displaying content next to me while presenting.

Context

One of the technical limitations when integrating Prezi Video into virtual conferencing tools was that the content displayed inside Prezi Video would be hidden if a user had a Virtual Background on from the actual video conferencing tool (e.g: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc)

Ways of working

Close collaboration with Mac, Windows and Web Engineers, Backend Engineers, and Product Managers.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges for this feature was to think of every use case that could happen, mostly technically. Due to the nature of Virtual Background, there were some restrictions as to which laptops it could run on. Some low performance computers for example would not have been able to handle the feature.

Outcome

As we still wanted to provide the feature for users with low performance computers, we had an alternative flow where we informed the user as to why the feature was not working normally and indicated an alternative which was for the user to have a green screen.
